So when lelekay posted about pads being bad, I agreed with her BUT I still will have to use them after DS is born. I usually use tampons but that's clearly not an option and I've been using pantiliners for months now (ah the trusty leaky bladder!). Anyhow, does anyone use mama pads? I mean I wash diapers, how bad can it be? I was disgusted by it at first but now I'm opening up to the thought of it. Could I wash them with the diapers? I mean it's all bodily fluid, right? There wouldn't be nearly enough of them (or at least I hope!) to wash in their own load.... If you use them, what kind did you use? Likes/dislikes? Also I love pads with wings so how does that work? And do they slide around since they don't have a sticky back?
Clearly I haven't researched this at all but just thought I'd ask here first... was anyone else grossed out but now kind of thinking about it?
Re: Talk to me about mama pads
I used cloth for PP bleeding. I didn't buy anything special b/c wow - expensive! AND I knew if I tried I could make them, but never did.
Instead, I happened to see preemie prefolds clearanced at the local cloth diaper store (they were switching manufacturers and all the other sizes had been snapped up). So I bought a dozen and just tri folded them and sewed one line down to keep them from coming un-folded. In retrospect that just increased the dry time and they probably would not have come unfolded.
I never had a problem with them moving and changed them frequently - I really wasn't moving too much in that heavy PP time. I did use 7th gen. pads when I left the house because I didn't have an extra wet bag or want to worry about packing them home (I'm with you - it seems more gross than CDs/poop/urine). I pre-rinsed them alone and then just washed with diaper laundry. I kind of liked the cushy ness of them.
Oh, just remembered - I also used disposable ones when I went out of the house b/c my prefold method obviously wasn't waterproof. At home I sat on waterproof baby pads (the ones that are almost as big as a changing pad?) - they were on all my seats b/c we have white furniture to protect for any leakage (actually never happened) or milk/spit up. I checked my pad method so often it never seemed to be an issue.
This. Though I haven't gotten any yet. I had thought about the concept back when I was first researching CDs when pg, but dismissed it as too gross. But now after what happened, I definitely want to get some. I had been looking here:
https://www.diaperjunction.com/cloth-pads-liners-menstrual-care-products.html
They even make a specific wetbag for them, if you wanted to go that route. They also talk about washing instructions, and say to just rinse them in cold water, then toss in with the rest of your diaper laundry.
The good thing about Mirena is that your bleeding is supposed to significantly lessen or even stop. I had tons of bleeding/spotting at first (thus the original problem), but it stopped right after I discussed it here. I'd like to get a few cloth pads just in case, but I'm hoping maybe I won't have much bleeding now? (wishful thinking, right?!)
you can get one for $4 to try here
or there are some on clearance here - they were posted on another board and here's what OP said:
I really like the pad I have from Party in My Pants, and they have some on super clearance.Their organic hemp/silk pads are marked down to $2.99! Please be sure to read the description about the liners before you buy, because the markdown is due to reports of them not holding up to heavy use. After reading it, I'm going to give them a try and maybe reinforce the seams if need be. For organic, this can't be beat, IMO. Shipping is $3.99.
I think since you have experience sewing you could easily reinforce them as well....or just make your own anyway maybe get the $4 one and use it as a reference?
i've been thinking about it but have not pulled the trigger....
