3rd Trimester

ne1 measure 2wks ahead

I found out today at my 29wk appt that I am.  My OB didn't go into it, but said that I look big and she is scheduling an ultrasound.  I know it can be typical to measure over/under and am just curious about others' experiences.  TIA!

Re: ne1 measure 2wks ahead

  • My midwife said it's 'normal' to measure within 3 cms different that your week.  It can depend on whether you have a big baby, your baby happens to be stretched out when they measure, or your bladder is fuller, etc.  At my last appt I was 25 wks, 3 days and measured 28 cm.  But my first baby was a big, healthy baby so she says she knows that I make 'em big!

  • Yes! I measured big the whole time. Now that we're coming to the end (38 weeks) we're leveling off a bit.
  • I was measuring 5 weeks ahead at 36 weeks.  I'm not due until the 5th, but will be induced on the 27th after another ultrasound too.  No need to worry I've been told.  Good Luck

  • Thanks so much, ladies!  I figured it was no big deal, but my OB was on her way to a delivery and we were pretty rushed.

  • I had a growth ultrasound yesterday at 30 weeks and he measured at 34weeks5days ahead.... but the nurse measured my tummy at 28 weeks... weird..

  • I measured 4 weeks ahead with my DD in the whole last trimester.  The doc induced 2 days early because he said she was going to be huge.  Like over 10 pounds.  When she was weighed, she was 7#7oz, so apparently they were way off and induced unnecessarily.  Just keep an eye out for that.  If they end up wanting to induce because of measurement, consider requesting an ultrasound measurement to confirm.

  • yup

but keep in mind the further along in your pregnancy the less accurate that measurement is...it's all dependent on the position of the baby....last week I measured 2w ahead...this week I measure exactly right (baby dropped)

FWIW- with my twins I measured 44W at 34! LOL

  • I have been measuring 3-4 cm (at 32 weeks I measured 28 cm) behind so they ordered a growth ultrasound and the baby is measuring 1 week ahead (33 weeks) ! so i have concluded you never know- the baby will arrive when the baby arrives :-)
