Hi everyone! I have posted here a few times but not regularly. Now that I'm finally pregnant again (took 8 cycles this time), I feel like I should introduce myself, though I know a lot of the regulars here know me already.
My name's Bridget and I'm just going to C&P an abridged version of my birth story with Sarah. I will be happy to post a novel for you later if anyone is curious.
I went in for decreased movement in the afternoon, then she started moving as soon as we got hooked up to the monitors and passed the NST, but they wanted to send me for an AFI anyway to check my fluid. The cross-covering doctor never even came to see me, just ordered the U/S. Took me hours to get down there, and the tech didn't think it was low. The radiologist, however, put me just within range for low fluid, and they induced me because of it. At 8AM the next morning, 7 hours after they hung the pit (they started at 1AM, I hadn't eaten since before we got to L&D triage and the monitor kept me up all night) the doc came in to break my water. Her exact words, "Wow, you're a gusher," and "Yeah, your fluid wasn't low at all." W...T...F...
Got the epidural 90 minutes later, put on oxygen around noon or so. My progess was very slow (my guesses, I'm hungry, tired, and Sarah was at -2 or -3 station and I was stuck in the bed), and eventually she started going into distress after 15 1/2 hours of an assload of pit. Stalled progress + decels = C-section for Geek. Suck.
Even more infuriating is that the midwife I'm seeing now and a friend of mine that is a Family Practice w/OB resident both told me they never would have induced me for the fluid level at which I was measured, and at the very least would have checked it again. It makes me angry just to think about it, truth be told. Ugh.
Anyway, I am a pretty favorable VBAC candidate and the midwife I'm not seeing has a great reputation, especially for VBACs. In 2009, something like 8 out of her 11 VBAC patients were successful, and 2 of the ones that weren't never even were able to attempt a ToL for other reasons. I'm really confident. I'm not sure if we are going to have a doula but I have another friend that lives in California now but is a doula. She may be moving to Philly a few months before I am due and has already told me she would love to attend my birth. That's kind of what I'm hoping for.
So hi! I hope we all get to send our babies our the way they got in.
Re: Introduction.
Welcome to the board! I believe we discussed in a post, long ago and far away, about wanting a VBAC board (I see our daughters are close in age so I'm guessing it was one of the toddler boards). Congrats on your new pregnancy and lots of support on your VBAC! I had mine in December - this board is a fantastic resource!
Hi and welcome to the group! This board is tremendously helpful, and I cannot believe TB didn't create it sooner. I guess all of the emails requesting it (led by Iris and others on the VBAC google group) finally paid off!
I just had a VBAC in early December, and I am so glad to have had the support of the ladies on here
Like pp, good luck on your VBAC and congratulations on your new pregnancy!
