for those who are on Prozac (or tried it!)...

What has your expierence been like/ how was it? My doc diagnosed me with PPD today and gave me a script for Prozac. I'm nervous about starting it because I've never taken anything like it before and I guess I'm just nervous about how I'm going to react to it. I'm keeping my fingers crossed and hoping for the best though! I know that every medication works differently for each person, but I just wanted to see what you guys thought about being on it. She originally wanted to give me Lexapro, but wasn't comfortable giving to me because she wasn't too sure about taking it while breastfeeding. I EBF, so I definitely do not want to take something that could hurt DS. I did a little bit of research on Prozac and saw that it's used to treat OCD a lot too, which is a major plus if it helps me with all the crazy things I've been OCD about since DS was born! I know that sometimes things can get worse before they get better too... was that the case for any of you? TIA!!!

When I took it years ago (pre baby) it worked GREAT. I had no side effects. When I tried it again it just hightened my anxiety(a big side effect) and we switched me to celexa (similiar to Lexapro) and that has been great for me. But everyone reacts different. Give it a shot and you can always change. I had to stop BFing but a happy mom is much more important that BFing in my book. But I was so bad I couldnt eat, sleep, drive....I was BAD!! Best wishes!

Prozac has worked great for me and I absolutely love it I've been on it for about 12 years now (since my teens). I've tried other antidepressants including wellbutrin and effexor, but I found Prozac has the fewest side effects (at least for me, everyone reacts differently) and if you discontinue it, the withdrawal effects are next-to-none. I also found it very effective in treating my depression.

I love it! It's given me my life back.

The first time I took Prozac I was being treated for OCD -- it helped me quite a bit. I dealt with side effects (insomnia, exhaustion, excess sleep, sexual issues) for about a month and then they disappeared completely.

I was off of medication for two or three years after getting things under control, but went back on meds during my 2nd trimester to help combat my excessive anxiety & severe depression. I had the same side effects as before and they disappeared after a month just like the first time.

My little Guy is now two months old and I'm still on Prozac... my doctor actually doubled my dosage after his birth to combat PPD and it's worked out really well. Everyone is different, but Prozac has been a godsend for me.

as pp said everyone does react different, i had to change meds because prozac totally tanked my already small sex drive. very common on this med i hate to say, but try it and see you may not have any problems.
