Embryo storage fees

Would anyone care to share how much you pay to store your embryo's per year and the region in which you live?

I have 6 frosties and DH and I are going back and forth on what we want to do with them. We aren't sure we would want to persue treatments again and do an FET but we would welcome another kiddo it if were to happen naturally for us.

This just hit me like a ton of bricks today and I am having trouble fathoming not doing "something" with the frosties.

Thanks ladies!

Re: Embryo storage fees

  • At my clinic, in NJ, it's $1200 for the year, but, everytime this question is asked on here, that seems to be at the top of the range.

  • We paid over a thousand (1350?) for the first year and then I think it was 750 the second and 350 this year.....ugh.  And that was for ONE EMBRYO.  ugh.

  • Our fee is $780/year and we are in MA, you receive a portion of that back if you use them within the year. Also the first year is no charge. We only have 1 so it was difficult to pay (especially since there is no out of pocket expense for a fresh cycle in MA) but in the end I feel like if we didn't preserve it and we were unable to get pregnant in a fresh cycle, I would always wonder "what if". I think if I knew I didn't want to go through another cycle, I probably would have looked into embryo adoption or donating for research.

  •  I'm in the midwest and our fee is $350/yr.  That said, we've yet to be charged (our embryos were frozen at the end of '08).  I was surprised seeing as though my clinic is nationally known.  Guess I thought they'd be on top of their storage charges.  When I asked my nurse about it she said that a few people have mentioned the same thing.  Odd.

  • $650 a year after 5 years it goes up to $1200.  We are in MD.  I couldn't fathom not at least giving them a shot either.  Dh wasn't so sure, but he's finally on board with me.  Then again we only have 2 left so we may feel different if there were a lot left over.  Good luck with your decision it is a difficult one to make.

  • I think ours is $320.  Doesn't matter how many you have and the first year was included in the price of our IVF.  I used RMA.

We use the same RE as LBR_NJ and I feel the same way that we pay more than most! I do believe the first was 1K and each year after that was 1200. If memory serves me rigth since that is now 3 years ago that we froze ours!

  • Thanks ladies!  I appreciate your responses.  We have 6 frosties so a decision will have to be made at some point I guess.  <sigh>
