School-Aged Children

I've never heard anything about Mel Levine being a perv.  What's the scoop?

  • Wow -- what a mess!  No wonder my school doesn't really do the Schools Attuned program anymore!  Sheesh -- the things a teacher misses when she's out of the classroom for 6 years....

What a shame, too, because it's been my experience that a lot of parents could benefit from understanding that their kids have genuine learning issues and aren't being willfully lazy (or not 100% willfully lazy, at least!)  While I don't want to say that every statement made by Mel Levine is now suspect, nor do I want to line the pockets of a molester by recommending his books.

  • I always forget about F.A.T. City, but that's an excellent recommendation.  Haven't seen it since grad school many years ago.  The school where I teach shows it to new teachers every year.

His message about the importance of direct instruction is vital and has really informed my teaching style over the years.  Sometimes an ounce of direct instruction is worth a pound of canned methodology!

    Thanks for the recs!
