Parenting after 35

If your LO had a reaction to the MMR/Varicella shots...

how many days later did it happen?  I read that it was 7-10 days.  I just want to know when to start watching DS extra closely for fever, because I read that the risk of febrile seizures goes up after the shots and he's already had one febrile seizure so I am really nervous and may keep him out of daycare during his high risk period.

Re: If your LO had a reaction to the MMR/Varicella shots...

  • DD had a fever eight days after her shots. She wasn't fussy or have any other symptoms other than a fever. The fever would be gone during the day but come back at night for two nights in a row. After that, it was gone.

Needless to say, I didn't get much sleep those two nights. Fevers are always so scary.

  • Ok thanks, it sounds like 8 days is the standard amount of time so I'll start watching him closely then!  Yeah, fevers suck, especially since he's already had one febrile seizure!

  • DS had a reaction to just the MMR, we are holding off on the chicken pox vaccine until his 15 month shots. He didn't get a fever, but has had spots all over his chest, back and larger ones on his face. Our pedi said it can take up to 2 weeks for a reaction and DS had his at 12 days after. I know to keep a look out for fever and other issues when he gets his Varicella shot in April.
