toddler poop

Jocelyn isn't all that interested in using the potty yet (sitting on it, yes; using it, no) and frankly we aren't all that interested in potty training until well after baby #2 arrives and things have calmed down for her. That being said, I've started wondering about how it will go whenever she is ready. Specifically, I'm wondering about her poop. More often than not, her poopy diapers are the super-messy, unformed crap-type; rarely does she have formed terds. I honestly can't imagine that poop paste coming out very well on the potty, even if she uses the adult potty. How does that work?  When will her poo become more formed? She doesn't drink a lot of juice or really a lot of liquids at all so I've assumed that pasty poo is normal for her age...

Re: toddler poop

  • Hmm.  I don't know.  Maddy's poop is pretty well formed.  It's usually only pasty when she's teething.

  • We're a few months behind you in age, but Ella's poo is icky and pasty, too. I have always attributed it to teething, and maybe that's the case - I swear she's been working on her incisors for months now.

I guess my response isn't all that helpful, is it?

  • I always wondered/was concerned about that as well.  If you think about it, imagine pooping in your pants, sitting down, moving all around, etc. like kids do.  Even if you are quick to change the diaper, it's gonna get smushed all around.  When it goes straight down in the toilet, it comes out just like anyone elses does.  Ellie had a poop accident in her panties since being potty trained, and it was not pretty at all.  It was just like it would have been in the diaper, only all over her panties.  Everytime she goes in the potty, it's non-messy.
  • good question!! Andrew poops out patties :)
