Success after IF

when you started solids - did you do breakfast, lunch and dinner?

Or did you start slow. Like just solids for breakfast for a while, then add in another meal a few days/weeks later? So far, we have just done breakfast but Beau seems like he would totally eat solids for 3 meals a day but I don't want to get in trouble with the mommy police. J/k but seriously I have no idea how this works. I'm going to go buy some book called super baby foods.

Re: when you started solids - did you do breakfast, lunch and dinner?

  • I think you can totally give him more.  I know they like you to start with rice cereal then veggies/fruits (totally different if you do baby led weaning, etc).  I started with 1 meal a day and after a few weeks did 2 meals.  I think I did 2 meals forever and I don't remember when I started 3 meals, maybe more when they were on table food - 8 to 9m, etc.

  • Before a year you aren't really giving him solids for nutrition since he's still drinking BM or formula. He's just practicing eating solid food, seeing what he likes and doesn't like, practicing the pincher grasp, etc.

If he seems like he'd be into solids for 3 meals a day then go for it. But make sure it isn't replacing the BM or formula.

  • glad you asked!  we are only doing dinner right now because that is easiest for us and I want him to be comfortable with solids before starting it at daycare too...but I was wondering this exact thing otday!

  • You have to listen to your baby...if he seems like he wants more than one meal, move to two.

We did one meal for a little over a month, I think...then we did two meals a long time.  Then, I think I finally added lunch when she was 9 months old or so?

  • We started with three "meals" a day with Henry, but I won't this time around. Too much work for no good reason. lol   We were basically feeding six times a day, which is ridic at that age.  I say start slow and add meals as you develop a routine.
  • I started with just cereal in the am, then about a week later I added cereal for dinner, then I started adding in fruits/veggies, then a 3rd meal (lunch).

  • We followed our baby, and our time...EmbarrassedOccasionally we would not have time to get in three meals with them in the beginning (BAD MOM ALERT) but I got better! I would listen to him, and go with what is working for your family!
  • We started slow-ish.  Just breakfast for a while - a different thing every three days.  Then when it seemed like she was getting it a little more, we added dinner.  At that point, we started mixing things, too, and making breakfast more "breakfast-y", i.e., oatmeal + some fruit.  If Beau likes his solids, go for it!  And check out wholesomebabyfood.com.  A great resource.

  • we started just dong cereal before bed, then a week later did breakfast and dinner. i added a third meal around 6 months, after i started introducing fruits and veggies, mainly because they went through a phase of being over the formula and only interested in eating solids. the pedi suggested i add in the third meal and to just add formula to all their solids.

  • We started with dinner, then added breakfast. Pedi said she should be eating solids three times per day at 9 months. Because DD loves solids and will often fill up so much she won't take her next bottle, I am going to hold off on the third meal for a bit longer.

  • We did dinner for a little while, then added breakfast.  We did those 2 meals until DS was 9 months, then added yogurt for lunch.  He loved it and ate it most days (and it is still one of his favorite foods  now as a picky, picky toddler!).

For DD we are still just doing breakfast and dinner (we do oatmeal with fruit for breakfast and rice with veggie for dinner).  I will probably do the same with her - around 9 months add yogurt for lunch, and see how she does.  It is so hard to fit in everyones meals - I feel  like all I am doing is working around eating schedules - adding in lunch may be difficult for me!
