Trouble TTC

PIO question

So, when DH gives me the injection each night, he does the whole thing of pulling it back and checking for blood. He has never had any blood show but everytime he takes the needle out, I bleed & sometimes a good deal (never needing to change the gauze pad but sometimes close). Is this normal or should I take him off PIO duty an just do it myself? He is always very nervous as he hates needles, so he may be inadvertanly shaking it when he takes it out of my butt ( ok, that sounds wrong! )

Do you tend to bleed a bit almost everytime you do an IM injection ?

Re: PIO question

  • I have not done my own IM injections yet but...I work in a clinic and when we give them some people bleed more than others even when we draw back and there is no blood. I always feel horrible but you may just be a "bleeder" I bet thats what you wanted to hear. I would not worry too much but thats just me...Good luck!

  • Hi honey.  I'm the exact same - sometimes I bleed a lot, sometimes I don't bleed at all.  I think it's normal either way.

They hurt, but it's not unbearable.  Make sure you use the smaller needle to inject, and use heat before and heat and massage after.  Have YH do the injection sloooooowly.   Good luck!

  • I bled almost every single time whether DH pulled back or didn't (eventually we just stopped checking, it doesn't affect absorption).   I went out and bought little spot band-aids because sometimes the damn thing would up and start bleeding a minute or two later even after we checked it.

  • I'm not there yet and not looking forward to it.Eek.
I was told is normal because of the big needle but if you're using aspirin you may bleed more.I hope you don't bleed anymore.

And L&R thanks for the reminder to buy dot bandaids.

They actually do not hurt at all at the time but can be a bit sore afterwards. I end up just running to the couch and sitting on a heating pad.

That definitely makes sense b/c of the aspirin !  I end up just having DH tape the gauze pad onto my bum and then take it off when I shower ( before going to bed).

  • A little bleeding is normal, or at least it was for me.  Especially the longer we had to do it, my butt just got sick of it, I guess!  Sometimes I had a pretty significant bleed towards the end.  Just sucks, but hang in there!

  • Why do you have to pull the needle back to check for blood?  When you pull the needle back, is it while it is still in your tush?  I haven't had to do PIO, but the nurse ordered some for my FET.  I haven't done any IM shots since I started tx and am nervous about PIO.

  • Sounds pretty normal.  For me there was at least a little blood after every PIO injection.  There were a few times that there was quite a bit of blood.  If he checks before hand and doesn't get any in the syringe, this isn't a problem.
