Cloth Diapering

Curious about cloth diapers

I currently use Pampers but am curious about cloth diapers. I was very put off when I went to my friend's house for a few hours and kept seeing pee spots on her toddlers' clothes. By her reaction, this was not uncommon at all. Do they really leak that badly??

I would like to give cloth diapers a try but I don't want to buy a whole bunch and then not use them. Is there some kind of sample pack or trial pack that I can buy just to see if I want to switch?

Thanks for your help!

Re: Curious about cloth diapers

  • Pee spots on your kid's clothing is not normal be it in sposies or CDs.  Something isn't working right and should be changed if that is happening IMO.  We use both sposies and CDs and rarely have a pee spot on our kids' clothes.

There are trials out there.  Jillian's Drawers has a popular one.  The FAQ at the top of the page might help answer some questions as you look into it.

  • do you really think people would use them if they constantly leaked? mine have maybe leaked two or three times when i don't have it on right. i'm shocked your friend puts up with it.

there are lots of companies and shops that offer trials. here's a list (double check with each website to make sure it's accurate, but this should get you started:

Well I had heard a lot of good things about CDs on TB but she uses Bum Genius and is intelligent....I thought maybe people figured it was worth it due to lower costs and being green. I also thought maybe she wasn't changing often enough.

    Thanks for the website.

She may be intelligent but she's missing something if all of her diapers are leaking and staining her kid's clothes. Maybe her diapers are repelling and she doesn't know how to strip them.

Trust me, a lot of people would give up on cloth for the green factor and the cost factor if that meant having a kid in stained clothes every day.

  • I'm currently doing the Jillians Drawers trial and really like it.  It's an easy way to figure out which diapers you like the best.  I've only had a leaking problem at night but that's because I don't have extra inserts.
