New to The Bump

New and Wanting help and advice

Hello!  My name is Amanda, and I am on my very first official cycle trying to conceive.  I have been lurking awhile on here, since I was on The Knot just a year ago looking at this site, wondering when I will be on here someday.  Well, my day has arrived!

I have endometriosis, so I know getting pregnant will be a challenge.  I have been to the doctor about it, who told me if I have normal periods, not to worry.  So, I am officially not trying to worry..(Of course I am, since my mom had troubles, but phew, I don't have it as bad as her!)  Anyway, the help and advice I am looking for.  I would love friends on here to talk to, since most of my friends aren't married or wanting babies yet...I know, lucky me to take the first plunge!  Well, my dilemma is this.  I am in mid cycle, which means ovulation is approaching.  I know people ask a million questions on here, but I have yet to find my answer in a book, google, or anything.  So, any information somebody could give me, PLEASE DO!  I will take anything!  I am charting the major signs, as well as taking OPK's since so many people on here seem to be lucky when doing both.  The problem:: People say that they have a second line, next to the control line, where they can tell if its lighter or darker as the control.  I have no second line.  I have been testing for a week!  I have had the CM for two days, and I still have no line at all.  I don't want to be that girl that runs to the doctor any time there is trouble, but its a little troubling that I get no line!  I am using Answer OPK and would love any input (as long as its on topic).  Sorry this is so long, but I am new!

Re: New and Wanting help and advice

  • First, I would find another doctor, just to get a second opinion. I would want a doctor who was monitoring my endo and intervening as quickly as necessary.

As to the OPK issue, people tend to fall into 2 camps when it comes to the lines. Some go from absolutely no test line to a full-on positive overnight. Others see a gradual darkening of the second line that eventually goes positive when they're about to ovulate. It sounds like you're in the first camp, and you just haven't gotten a +, or you've missed it. When during the day are you testing, and how often? Some people have to test twice a day to catch their surge.

I would also recommend Taking Charge of Your Fertility if you don't already have a copy, and potentially charting.
