C-Section Mommas

How long do you have to wait before you can take a bath instead of just a shower?

Re: C-Section Mommas

  • My doctor did not give me any restrictions as far as taking a bath after my c-section.  I didn't take a bath, but am positive no one told me not to.

  • Hmmm. I honestly don't remember that I was given a restriction! It's probably just assumed that you won't take one while you're still bleeding post-delivery. My incision would have been fine to take a bath after the first week. It healed very quickly. That said, I bled off-and-on for about six weeks after Grady was born. I don't think I took a bath until about two months PP because I was afraid Grady would start crying and an attempt at a bath would be all for naught ;)

  • I don't remember being given any restrictions either. I could take a shower as soon as I was unhooked from all the machinery (IV, catheter, epidural, etc) - I took one the evening after I had Paige (in the hospital).

  • Like the others, I don't remember being told not to take a bath.

Then again, I don't take baths...I probably wouldn't have paid attention to those instructions anyway.

    Helpful much?

  • I sort of remember them saying no baths until after your 6/8 week checkup.  But I could be completely making that up.  I don't take baths either, so I didn't really pay attention either way.  There's no time for a bath with a newborn at home.  ;)
  • I don't remember hearing that either--I guess the only concern would be getting out of the bathtub, but once you're home that shouldn't be too bad.  I remember being in there not too long after I got home working on getting off the adhesive.
