Intercourse timing on Clomid

Hi Ladies,

I have a question about timing intercourse when on Clomid.  Did your doctor give you specific days in your cycle to have intercourse?  My doc. said CD 13, 14, and 15 for us.  We had sex on CD 9 then on CD 13 and 14.  I was not feeling well on CD 15 so we did not have sex on that day.

So, now I am worried that we did not give ourselves a good enough chance this month.  I had O pain on CD 14 but am not positive if I O'd (I go on Monday for bloodwork).  I know this may sound stupid but with this being our first cycle on Clomid I have a lot of questons,

TIA

  • My doc said to have sex every other day for a week after CD 9. This is our first round as well.

    Best of luck!

  • We did three rounds of Clomid and had sex every other day from day 8 - 20.

  • You should also be monitoring your temp.  You can visibly see when you are going to ovulate as there is a large spike.  My RE said sex as much as possible days 9-19 and for sure three consecutive days when the temp changes.  Also, I've watched "the great sperm race" on you tube (VERY informative-about an hour or so documentary) and it recommends every other day for good quality sperm).  Everyone is different on clomid so, other than the bloodwork, your body temp should give you some answers :)

  • Ideally, you should be able to time intercourse to ovulation while on Clomid, because you should be monitored by ultrasound mid-cycle during a Clomid cycle. Otherwise, you could also use OPKs, which detect in your urine the LH surge that occurs immediately preceding ovulation. Lastly, charting your temp is helpful in confirming that you indeed ovulated, though the temp spike happens AFTER ovulation, so this information is really only useful retrospectively.

Ditto. They should be monitering you via u/s and thus be able to tell you exactly when you have sex. If you use OPKs, just note that you may not actually ovulate when you get a surge. So, keep using them just to verify you are not surging again. Then, after this cycle, please either insist on being omnitered or find a new doc that knows the importance of it.

  • I took Clomid in Dec, if I had sex on those days we would have missed it completely. I did not O until day 17/18. You need to be using OPK's or taking your temp.
