Baby Names

Which spelling would you prefer for this girl name?

H and I like this name, but we aren't favoring any particular spelling. Just curious what others think. Thanks![Poll]

Re: Which spelling would you prefer for this girl name?

  • lena is my grandmother's name, and i absolutely adore it.

we would have used it for our mn, but decided to do something for my dad instead.

  • I would pronounce Lena as leah-na.

    I voted for Lana.

I voted for Laina because of the above.  They are all different names to me.

  • This is one of my biggest issues with the name. Lena is what it should be, but I want to say it like Leena. Lana is Lah-nuh, and it's 'anal' spelled backward. Laina and Layna look like American phonetic attempts to fix the 'issue'. My vote goes to Lena. I'd rather correct people than dumb down my kids name. HTH!

This. Lena can be pronounced like lay-nah (it is especially in predominantly Spanish speaking areas), but it's also a German name pronounced lee-nah.

To avoid confusion go with Layna or Laina. My vote goes to Laina (because I'll do anything to avoid a random Y: ).

  • I do not pronounce Lena or Lana the way you want to pronounce it, so I would go for the most phonetic spelling of your pronunciation.

BA, you're always on the lookout for anal names aren't you!?!?  ;)

I totally wouldn't have seen it without you, but now I couldn't agree more.

  • I wouldn't go with Lena if you are looking for a Lay sound.... people will pronounce it Lee-na

  • I think I like Lena the best, or Lana although I would pronounce that one Lann -uh, Lena could be Lay-na or Lee-na and the others were Lay-na.

  • I think if you spell it Lena it will be pronounced Lee-nuh.  Just something to consider . . . do you want to be correcting people ALL the time?  And I think Lana will be pronounced with the 1st a sounding like the a in apple.

  • If you like the E you could spell it Leina...but now that I type it, it looks weird. But you wouldn't have pronunciation troubles.

  • I like Layna the best and I think that if you want to pronounce it "Lay-nah" it looks the best.  I would say Laina as a second choice.  Lena looks like "Lean-ah"

    I think it's a very pretty name though :)
