"Unspoken" Rules?

I've been lurking for about a week and seen many people type this. So, what are some of the "Unspoken" rules?

Lurk. A lot. Many boards have a certain vibe and you have to figure out what's right for you.

Search the boards, and you have to do it by hand. Go through a page or 2 of posts to see if your question has been asked and answered. It can be very frustrating to answer the same question 15 times a day.

Introduce yourself. I liken it to a cocktail party. You don't typically barge into a conversation, so introduce yourself and you'll likely get a good response.

Research your question before you ask it. Sometimes a simple google search can get you the answer you want.

Don't fish for someone to tell you that you're pregnant. We can't answer it any better than a Magic 8 Ball. Test and/or see your doctor.

Don't delete a post just because you don't like the answer(s) you receive. The Bump never forgets, and someone may have already C&P'd it.

Have a thick skin. I can tell you I've been at least mildly flamed on almost every board I've visited, whether it's because I had an unopopular opinion, worded something wrong, or said something too blunt for someone's comfort. I'm still here

Becareful of opinion questions.  Ignore negativity rather than respond, unless you are looking for entertainment.  Certain posters seem to speak only to others.  There are a lot more lurkers than posters!
