Trouble TTC

PCOS questions

I originally posted this on another board, but haven't recieved any responses, so I thought I would try here as well. This might be a more appropriate place anyway, I'm not sure.

I was diagnosed with PCOS in July (we're trying to get pregnant). My doctor put me on Metformin and Provera-I took the Provera the 1st through the 10th of every month. I think he was hoping that by doing this I would have "regular" cycles, and be able to get pregnant.

In December my period started on its own the day before I was supposed to start the Provera. It lasted for a day. I was already scheduled to go to the doctor a few days later, so I held off taking the Provera, to ask him what he thought I should do. He told me that since it only lasted a day (mine typically last 5 days) that it wasn't a "real" period...that what had likely happened was the very top of the lining had been shed, but not the entire lining.  At that appt I also told him about pain that I had been experiencing from a large ovarian cyst, and he decided to take the cyst out, and do a d&c at the same time to take care of the uterine lining that hadn't shed.

That was a month ago. After the surgery, he told me to not take the Provera at all-he was hoping that by removing the majority of cysts that my body might be able to regulate itself...he said that he sees that a lot after a surgery like this. I started my period Friday on schedule...but again, it only lasted a day. I know that periods after d&cs can be abnormal, but after what he told me the first time, about how it wasn't a "real" period, I'm concerned. I called his office, and they can fit me in next week....I just don't want to be that crazy person who goes in at every twinge or tiny thing.

Any advice? Worth seeing the doctor, or chalk it up to abnormal period after a d&c? If it were you...would you go in?

Thanks for any and all help.

Re: PCOS questions

  • Can you speak to your doctor on the phone and simply ask him your questions?  If not and it's worrying you, I say go and check it out with your doctor.

  • Hi Bree! Are you seeing and RE or a gyn?? If you're seeing a gyn, I would HIGHLY recommend getting to an RE asap. The best thing I ever did was stop going to my gyno to get pregnant and went to an RE... I feel as if I am actually getting somewhere with an re.

    Good luck!
