NBR: Creating a budget

DH and I need a budget...badly.

Can anyone suggest a good program to use that will keep track of our income/spending?

Thanks!

Re: NBR: Creating a budget

  • Hi!  My DH is a CPA and we use a website called Mint.com.  It used to be the online/free version of Quicken.  We have the apps on our iphones.  You sync your Mint.com account with your checking/credit card accounts and it helps you manage your money, expenses, etc.  You can get status updates via email and it also gives you nice graphs of where your money is going, ie what percentage of your income is going to food, housing, cars, gas, etc.

The best part is that it is FREE!  Hope that helps.

  • I know Microsoft Works has a budget spreadsheet.  My husband is in banking.. so it is his life.  He created one for us & it really opened my eyes to how as a family  we spend money.  The best thing ever!!!!!

  • I also like mint.com It enters everything for you since it draws info from your accounts so there is little data entry that you need to yourself. You can set budgets for each category and it will send you emails if you go over your budgeted amount. It is free but they do suggest through advertisers (banks) where you could better invest your money.
  • We use quicken...i track EVERYTHING!!! bank accounts, loans, credit cards, 401k, investments. Makes it much easier on me when I go to do taxes at year end. Plus it is great for budgets and also helps you track performance of investments, etc.

I really like it. And it's fairly easy to use.
