Success after IF

Quick Poll: Whole Cow's Milk

When did you first offer LO WCM?

Do you do WCM with meals, and water (or etc.) at other times?  Or vice versa?

(Thanks to all who responded to my last WCM post.  I'm not ignorning your responses and I do appreciate them - just trying to ask more pointed questions now in hopes of getting a few more responses!)

eta:  No plans to start now, just gathering info!  DH and I were talking about this last night -- DS loves his sippy cup of water with dinner, and I was wonder aloud whether we'd continue that (and give milk at other times) or replace it with a sippy of milk eventually.

Re: Quick Poll: Whole Cow's Milk

  • I switched Nico to whole milk when he turned 1 year old.  He had the milk in the morning, at naptime and before bed. Now that he is in pre-school, he also has milk with lunch.

  • I just offered DS WCM last night so we could try it out - he is 11 months, but adjusted age is about your DS's age.  I gave it to him in a sippy with his dinner and he had a few sips, just like he normally does with water.  If he totally refused it, I wanted to be prepared to mix with formula for a while, but it doesn't look like that will be necessary.

I'm interested to how others respond to your other question, since I haven't decided how we will handle this yet, either!

  • We started WCM at 1.  She typically gets a cup with breakfast and lunch and with a late afternoon snack, as well as some before bed, if she wants it.  We don't do milk with dinner because we keep kosher and typically have meat for dinner.  Similarly, if she has a meat lunch, she doesn't get milk then, either.  When she doesn't get milk, she gets water.
  • Milk at one year.  We still do with meals, but he definitely got one before bed.

I usually do water after dinner after he drinks his milk.

  • We offered WCM after his 1 year appt when the pedi told us to start transitioning him from formula to WCM.  It took about 2 months for the transition to be complete.

We offer milk with meals and water in between meals.  He drinks about 20-28oz a day.  (Yes, I know that's more than most pedis recommend, but we talked to them about it and they are ok with him drinking that much.)

  • I believe I started offering WCM at meals right around 11 months.  She was still nursing at the time, so this was mostly just to get used to having it a meal time and to start acquiring the taste for it.

Now, I serve a juice/water combo at breakfast and she'll usually take all morning to drink it (it's probably a 12oz cup.)   It's probably a 85% water, 15% juice ratio. She always has either oatmeal or grits w/ half a cup of milk mixed in or yogurt in the morning.

At lunch she has anywhere from half to a full cup of milk (we're drinking 2% now.)

When she gets up from her nap, I'll refill the juice/water cup, but just with water. Sometimes a splash of juice.

At dinner she drinks another cup of milk.

    Nothing to drink after dinner.

After THREE years, our IVF miracle is here!!!

  • We started at 11.5 months, by mixing with BM. About a week later, I gave her a full bottle of WCM. No problems with either switch for her.

  • I think we started mixing it in with his formula when he was about 11 months old and increased the milk proportion so that right after he turned 1 we went to 100% milk. We do milk most of the day, he usually has about 3 sippys full over the course of the day, and one sippy of juice. It's kind of with meals, but really, whatever he has in his sippy at meal time is what he has at that meal (I try to keep offering him drinks all day to keep him hydrated, not just at meals).

  • I gave D milk at 1 year old. He loves milk so much that he would drink a gallon if it was in a sippy cup. So I can not give it to him with meals, he used to fill up on the milk and not want to eat. I give him a sippy of water after he eats most of his meal.

I give him sippys of milk when he wakes and when he has snacks. He then gets a bottle at night.

A lot of years and a million tears finally led me to you.
After 7 years trying to concieve, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs, my third IVF was a success!

  • We switch on her 1st birthday.

Just replaced her formula with WCM.

She now drinks milk before bed and before her nap, and that's it.  The rest of the day she has water, juice, some combo, or tea.

  • Milk is mostly water so we do milk almost exclusively.

The exceptions are water bottles for hiking and outdoor play - particularly in the summer.

But I've got small kids so extra calories are never a concern for us and usually a plus.

Our IF journey: 1 m/c, 1 IVF with only 3 eggs retrieved yielding Dylan and a lost twin, 1 shocker unmedicated BFP resulting in Jace, 3 more unmedicated pregnancies ending in more losses.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.
  • When did you first offer LO WCM? 12 months in a sippy with food, we stopped formula at 14 months.

Do you do WCM with meals, and water (or etc.) at other times?  Or vice versa? So far they get a bottle of wcm in the morning, a cup after their nap and a bottle before bed. They have been getting water with their meals, unless they don't fininsh thier sippy of wcm, they they get that with their food.
