What is festive clothing?

DH's belated holiday work party calls for "festive" attire. Seems like such a vague description. What should I wear.  I'll be pulling from the closet but I have an arsenal of work clothes, dresses from weddings/showers/ etc...

    I'd wear a dress or a skirt.

     My immediate response to the dumb invitation was similar :)  To me, festive is a mood..am i supposed to wear my happy, cheerful clothes? Why can't they just say "cocktail" or "evening wear"..you know, an actual dress code?!

    Hmmm. Unless the event is being held in a space known to support a cocktail dress, I'd be looking at a LBD and a cardie with some sort of embellishment. Maybe dress pants and a sequinned tank.

     

    fancy schmancy hotel in downtown boston. party in evening. My current pic is a BCBG black dress, beaded necklace, strappy heels?
