Success after IF

It breaks my heart....

That Bailey (our dog) doesn't like Jack.

He gets so excited when she is running around playing and when she comes by one of us when we are holding him he reaches out for her. Unfortunately she doesn't want anything to do with him. She is still so jealous of him and does anything to get our attention away from him. I know when we first brought him home we turned her world upside down. She was the baby for 3yrs but I honestly thought that after 6 months she would have adjusted and accepted him. I always had this image of my little boy and my puppy playing in the yard together. Now I am realizing that may never happen. My heart breaks for Bailey because I don't think she is the same dog she was before Jack, and it's only going to get worse for her as he gets older and is able to chase after her. But my heart also breaks for Jack who is so intrigued by her and wants to play with her, as he gets older he is going to want that dog to play with.

My Dh says "what were we suppose to do never have a baby because we might upset the dog?" I know he's right but I can't help but feel like a bad doggy mommy. Sad

  • Crying I thought our pup was the only one. Libby wants NOTHING to do with Eliza and E loves her soooo much. She signs "dog" and says Libby a million times per day. Part of it is that Libby is afraid of her and Eliza is not so great with the gentle touches yet. It also doesn't help that Libby had major surgery twice in the first 3mo of Eliza's life so I think she kinda of associates that with the baby. Now that we are expecting again, my heart breaks for Libby because I think she is going to be totally depressed for the rest of her little life Crying It is sad. I still hold out hope that maybe Libby will play with her someday.

Anyway, just wanted to commiserate with you!

  • HUGS our kitty Bella just started coming into the living room again when DS is awake. She is a lot more skittish than before and like you said it turned her world upsided down, but she is slowly adjusting. I hope that soon you see Baliey turn the corner and love your son the way you thought she would.
  • I'm sorry.  I hope it gets better.  So far my dogs will just sniff Aly and will sometimes try to lick her.  I too have always dreamed of Aly crawling around after the dogs.

  • Take heart!

At ages 3 and 4 my kids are finally old enough to understand they need to be quiet and move slowly around our cat.

Now instead of running and hiding she actually walks up to them for lovin'!

Hoping your beloved fur babies come around once the kids are not so scary to them.

Our IF journey: 1 m/c, 1 IVF with only 3 eggs retrieved yielding Dylan and a lost twin, 1 shocker unmedicated BFP resulting in Jace, 3 more unmedicated pregnancies ending in more losses.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.
  • I'm willing to bet that when your LO is a bit older and starts throwing food from his high chair, Bailey may see things differently! Smudge has always done well with Grant (I think it was ME he was pissed at!), but he is even better with him now that Grant "shares" with him. We have also taught Grant how tom give Smudge treats. Heck, if you want to encourage warm and fuzzy feeling towards your DS, just put a dab pf peanut butter on LO's feet for Bailey to lick off! Just kidding! I did spend time worrying about Smudge, heck, I cried myself to sleep a couple of nights thinking about it! Hopefully things will improve!

  • Give 'em time. My cat HATED Rhayna for the LONGEST time. They still have an on-again-off-again courtship but she's (the cat) grown to accept and even love on her sometimes (she's not an exceptionally lovie cat to begin with).

At first, the cat hid for the first 5 months - I swear! And then around month 8 she came out of hiding and would be in the same room as Rhayna. Around 15 months she's let Rhayna pet it if she was quiet and calm. Around 2 yrs, she was tormenting Rhayna (scratching her door in the middle of the night to wake her, just to p!ss us off...I had to make a moat in front of my daughter's door to keep the freakin cat away!) and now at 2.75 - they have a symbiotic relationship. Rhayna can even get the cat to come and give pets (if the cat is in the mood - I mean the cat ignores ME all day long but the min DH walks in the door HER MAN IS HOME! and she comes out in full force).

    It will get better!
