Alright ladies... I would love some of your experience, knowledge and expertise. (obviously taking into account that everyone is different)
Today I had to go to a diff doctor in my doc's practice, so that was the start of interesting things to happen. Normally, I go, get my u/s, take my bp and urine sample and I'm on my way. This would have been the case today as well, but I mentioned that I did think that I am having some contractions (about 10/day). The new doc was upset that I was not having my cerix checked and sent me back to u/s. Sure enough I am now a 2.4 cm (2 weeks ago I was a 3.5) and it is funneling.
I was instructed to go home and put my feet up, and he would contact my doctor to see what he wanted to proceed with. He also said that if he was my doctor he would have given me the steroid shot today, but would wait for my doc's recommendation within the next couple of days.
So...Anyone have less than the recommended 2.5cm cervix and last for a few more weeks? And anyone with good knowledge about the steroid shot? I know it helps with lung development, anything else, or any side effects? TIA!!
Re: Cervix/Steroid ?
I lasted for 13 weeks and only delivered because I had pre-eclampsia.
My MFM doesn't measure cervical length much past 32 weeks because by nature it will begin to thin. It won't hurt to get steroids, but you will likely stay pregnant for quite a bit longer. Only time will tell.
I had a cervix somewhere around 2 cm and funneling around 25-26 weeks. They put me on work restriction at that point. Then at 27 weeks I was hospitalized for contractions and then I had to leave work. I was ordered to stay off my feet as much as possible, and my cervix pretty much held in place.
I had to deliver at 29w6d for HELLP Syndrome, and my cervix never had anything to do with that decision.
I received the steroid shots twice during the two times I was hospitalized. Never had a single issue with it, and I'm happy to say that my almost 30-weekers never needed breathing assistance.
That is Awesome that you LOs never needed breathing assistance!
I am also being monitored for Pre-e...bc of protein in urine, and swelling, but my blood pressure has been relatively good. I just got labs drawn again today to check, but my mom also had it and twins obviously increases the chances.
So maybe that is another reason he seemed so concerned today!? I hope that I can make it to the end of January, now we wait and see. : )
At 25 weeks I was at 1.8 and a week later at 26 weeks I was .7 (basically unmeasurable). I got 2 rounds of steroids at 25 weeks. No side effects, just 2 shots 24 hours apart. My doctors office didn't have it on hand so I did have a little trouble getting the Rx filled.
I ended up on bedrest at home for 13 weeks. I delivered at my scheduled c-section @ 38w2d and had giant babies.
Keep your feet up and rest to keep your babies cooking!
