How much for infant daycare...

For those of you working moms, who are going back to work after LO is born how much are you going to be paying for 5 days a week infant day care? I know it can depend by area, but we are having a really hard time finding a daycare with any infant care openings (most of them only have 2 years+ up available). It looks like the waiting list is about 12 months at most places here, which is absurd to me and should be interesting since we live across the country from our families, we don't have any other child care option except for hiring an in-home sitter/nanny. The places here seem to be about $300 a week, or $1200 a month (we live in san diego). I knew it was going to be more expensive for infant care vs toddler care, but EEEPS!!

$1200 a month for such a large city isn't bad. Maybe look into nannies or getting an Au Pair?

When I was in management in daycare, it was $305 a week, and that was 2.5 years ago.

The school where DD is now has a rate of $1450 for infant care per month. I personally think this is insane so we are keeping our options open...for now.

I'm surprised daycare is that low in San Diego.  I spent a summer in La Jolla and stuff was expensive!

Anyway, in central Wisc, full-time daycare is about $1000 a month but we're going 1/2 time for $635 a month (included a YMCA membership) because our schedules permit.  I'd rather be at home with my baby girl though :-(

Out here it's $130-$170 a week. Like PP said: a lot lower COL out here.

This. Typical around here is between $500 and $800 a month for infants. I know that's a wide range. It depends on what kind of daycare (in-home vs. large center) and what part of town you live in.

We'll be paying $500 for an in-home daycare in a modest part of town.

I live in SC.  All the daycares here cost 115-120 per week.  I know this is quite a bit less than most areas.

I live in Boston and it is a minimum of $1,600/month for an infant. The good daycare centers are about $2,600!!!! Everything here is expensive though. I am anxious for DH to finish school so we can head back to the Midwest!

We pay $925 for 3 days per week - it would be $1250 for full time.  Daycare is crazy expensive!

We're paying $150/week for an in-home daycare.  That's pretty standard for even commercial daycares centers in this area.  We went with in-home because less exposure to kids will hopefully equal less trips to the pedi office.  Good luck!

I pay $850/month in Park City, UT (small town, but rich people).  When I signed up I was 10th on the list and they only take 4 infants.  But it seems a lot of those people found other options because I made it in.  So it doesn't hurt to get your name on every list possible so you have something.... and to me it's worth a little extra money to take your infant to your #1 choice...(there were some cheaper options that were pretty much ghetto...i almost cried when I left the walk throughs)

I charge my client $900 per month for FT infant care.  I charge $600 for toddler care (non-potty trained).

 Yeah the $1200 a month is for 4 days a week, and not exactly at our ideal places But husband just took a huge paycut at work at taking home $800 less a month then he was before so things will not be 'ideal' for childcare in may unless he can find another job by then.

I wasn't trying to say it isn't expensive, it is still crazy to me that it costs that much.  I was just surprised that San Diego had lower costs than Seattle because everything there seems absurdly expensive.  But for 4 days a week and not at an ideal place, yeah it seems about right I suppose.  Have you looked into nannies?

When I worked as an infant teacher the rate was $265 a week. This was last year and they do raise their prices every year. I also worked for a corp. owned place which cost more but offers more as well. That price included formula and provided cereal and jar foods, and for those starting solids it included breakfast, a hot homemade lunch, and 2 snacks.

We paid $365 a week for 45 hours for infant care for DS - that included food and diapers also. It was an insane amount of money.

What we were first looking at was a babysitter/ nanny to just come every day, maybe you can look into that?

We live just outside NYC so I feel your pain.  Daycare is incredibly expensive, it's criminal.  That price sounds good to me honestly.  

My parents are retired & doing the babysitting.  I know we're incredibly blessed.

Holy smokes I am about to fall out of my chair reading some of those prices!!!  The day care LO would be going to is $120 a month...but we also have two older kiddos who are currently in after school day care and that is an additional $100 a week (for both of them)...so total we would be paying $880 a month...but for 3 kiddos, that's not too bad!!  Although...I *hopefully* get to be a SAHM after LO is born so it won't matter!!  Yippee!!!

We are in Seattle, which I would have imagined would be pretty similar to your area cost-wise. Most of the nicer centers we looked at were around $1500-1900 a month. There were OK ones for $1000-1300. We didn't look at any in-home centers, which I know are generally cheaper, but we are thinking of doing a nanny share with another local family. You might look into that option.
