TTC After a Loss 6 Months+

Goodbye tubes. :(

I just got back home from my repeat HSG and meeting with RE.  He wanted to go over all my problems and what we had already addressed and discuss any other possible reasons for a miscarriage.  Here's where I stand;

1) PCOS - take 1000mg metformin daily, loose 20 more pounds (only for me, he said my weight is fine)

2) Blood disorders (I was + for 3 of 5 disorders) - lovenox injections, baby aspirin, folic acid, vitamin D

3) Karyotyping - getting both Kevin and I tested for genetic issues ($2400 total).

4) Hydrosalpinx (blocked/clubbed tubes) - Complete removal of fallopian tubes.  After further evaluation, tubes appear to be "pooling" with fluid in certain spots. This can cause toxic fluids to build up in tubes and leak into uterus to case m/c.  Also found mass on right tube that needs to be removed and tested for cancerous cells.

 My RE actually said, "we are going to have to go gangbusters on you" and just remove all tubes and ensure your genes aren't messed up.  Which means for our next IVF we may have to do PGD (unless karyotyping is normal). One interesting thing I didn't know is that my scarred tubes could actually CAUSE my blood clotting disorders.  He said the body recognizes the pelvic disease and it tires to overcome it by clotting.  So all of my issues are a result of my F*cked up tubes.

 So yeah - that's the game plan.  No more tubes.  No more chance of ever conceiving on our own.  1 IVF and 1 FET try left. It's all riding on this next ER.  Part of me is sad to loose my tubes, the other part of me knows that they aren't doing me any good anyway.  Plus now Kev and I won't have to worry about the dangers of ectopic pregnancies in the future.

This just sucks. It's so overwhelming. I wish I would have known all of this before we did our first IVF. I am mad that we wasted those other tries.  Anyway, that's the update.  Thanks for reading and for all your support. <3

I'm going to find the vodka now...

  • Interesting. Hopefully with those misbehaving tubes out of there, the next IVF will be a success. You know I'm rooting for you, my dear.
  • Kelin, I don't have words that the Bump would allow me to post, so just tons of hugs and I love you. I really, really hate this crap.
  • Wow that is a lot to take in. The good news is that the doctor thinks he has some answers. Who knew that your tubal issues could cause all of those issues. I so hope this is the answer for you and I wish you could have gotten it sooner.
  • I'm sorry Kelin.  That all sucks so much.  I think the plan sounds good and hope the next IVF works for you.

  • Your first HSG didn't catch that your tubes were enlarged/causing pooling?  Because that's a known cause of m/c and I thought that was exactly the sort of thing that an HSG is supposed to catch!!  There's no way of fixing your tubes with some sort of corrective surgery?  How did they get so messed up in the first place?

     I'm sorry that you have to go through all of this crap, but I am happy that there's still hope for you to have biological children.  I remember before you were thinking that it wasn't a possibility, so it must be a relief to know there's a chance, even if you do have to do it through IVF.  Plus, I can't wait to see your adorable baby!

  • Wow, that?s a lot on your plate to deal with. I?m so sorry this has been/is such a difficult journey for you. Wishing you lots of luck on this next cycle! Praying that you will get your take home baby soon :-)

  • I appreciate that your doctor is thinking innovatively and proactively, but I wish like hell that he'd gotten his sh!t together before your last IVF tries.  I realy do think that inflammation does awful things to our bodies and has a lot to do with m/c, so I think the tube removal plan is a solid one.  I just wish you didn't have to do it.

    Lots of love, Kelin.  This sucks.
