Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

HCG back to zero?

How long does it usually take for the hcg levels to get back to zero?  I had my D & C on Friday (although they didn't get everything, so I didn't pass everything until Wednesday (1/12) and on 1/13 my level was still at 11,000.  My doctor wants to follow my hcg down to zero, but it is torture going into that office.  I just want to be DONE with all the blood tests, ultrasounds etc.   I have one more follow up appointment scheduled and am hoping I don't have to go in after that anymore so I can move on.

Re: HCG back to zero?

  • Mine went down to 0 about a week after losing the baby, but I was only at 6 weeks. I know what you mean about the blood tests and the ultrasound. You just want it to be over and done with. Nothing hurts worse than going to the OB/GYN and seeing all of the pregnant mommies with their tummies when you don't have yours.

You're in my thoughts and prayers. I hope you know that you're not alone in this.

  • I lost my babies on November 7th (triplets @ 20 weeks preterm labor) and I'm still not at 0. I guess it's just different for everyone.

  • From what I have been told, your levels should go down about half every 2-3 days.

There are exceptions to the rule.  My levels still are not at zero and it has been 6 weeks.  My Dr said they expected them to be at 0 after 3-4 weeks.

I couldn't stand walking in to the Drs either, so the office will just call me with my levels and if I need another blood test they just have the paperwork for the lab ready at the front desk.  Then, my DH picks those up on the way home without me having to go in.  This has made the situation a lot less stressful for me.

I hope your follow up goes well and you get some closure soon.  ~big hugs~

  • I am sorry for your loss. I had my D&C on 1//112 and my levels were at about 15,000. I went back to the doctor about a week and a half later and I was at 125. I am going back again this Wed, (about 2 1/2 weeks) and they expect it to be at 0. I did take another pregnancy test, at the advice of my doctor, on Saturday and it was negative. So I think I should be around zero now. I think everyone is different and I was only 7w1d when I m/c.

  • I'm sorry for your loss. Is there another place you can go to get blood work done? My doc is following my levels down to 0, also, and I always opt to go to my hospital's out patient center to do the blood work. I just have the girl who calls me from my doc office fax the paper work over to the hospital. Once during my first MC I went into the doc office and ended up having a panic attack from looking at all of the pregnant ladies! So, that why I'm avoiding going there this time around.
