When to start nightly baths?

Since Caden was an infant we have been giving him a bath every other night to not dry his skin out. When did you start giving baths every night?

Re: When to start nightly baths?

  • If dd hasn't done anything to get dirty, I still don't bathe her every night.  When I am getting her ready for bed I will wipe her off with a baby wipe and then lotion her up.

  • I have an extremely drooly/spitty baby, so he gets a bath most nights.  I just lotion the crap out of him :)
  • When it's summer time and boys you have no choice!!! There is mud, sweat, and dirt everywhere! In the winter he gets one ever 3rd day or else his skin gets too dry (and well he fights me!)

  • We started a bath every night as part of the nighttime routine around 4-5 months. She loves baths and we've never had an issue with dry skin. We do lotion after.

If we hadn't done it that early, we would have had to start last spring/summer. She was going outside at least twice a day at daycare and would come home sweaty and sticky, usually with sand in her toes and diaper.

After 20 months, 3 Clomid cycles and 4 IUI cycles, IVF #1 with ICSI = BFP!

  • Baths are exhausting (for me!) in our house, so we do every other day, and I don't see that changing until DS is old enough to play outside.  Yes, he still sometimes gets sweaty or food all over him, but we honestly just wipe him down unless it's something crazy.
  • We started giving nightly baths when she started solids and in particular, when she started self-feeding things, so maybe around...  7 months or so?  She just started getting dirtier and dirtier, with food on her and in her hair, etc.

  • We're still doing every other day baths.  Sam has eczema and it's just too drying, even with aquaphor after every bath.

  • Over the summer we started bathing K every other day. Once she started solids she was a mess by the end of the day.

Now that it's winter we've cut down to either a very quick bath or bathing every other day. If we miss even one day of lotioning her up her skin gets SO dry.

Ditto this.  It settles DS down for the night and I enjoy it.  We slather him with lotion.  Have been doing it since about 4 months.

  • We are only doing every other day or sometimes he even goes 2 nights without a bath - like others said his skin gets too dry otherwise.  He gets more frequent baths or shower in the summer, but for now, especially just hanging around the house all day on cold days - every other day at most is fine (and we still have to lotion him up afterward.)

  •  In the summer, he gets a bath every night because he is dirty from being outside. In the winter since we spend more time inside and he is "cleaner" he gets one every other night.

  • My Pedi recommended no more than 2 baths a week until he reaches a year old. Since we only do 2 baths a week it is not part of a nightly routine yet but I plan to make it a nightly routine at 1 year old.

  • Same as stepgirl, we only bathe about every 2-3 days. Even now with solid foods, she isn't really that messy yet, but I am a freak about having a clean baby (I have a thing about sticky hands and food in hair) so that may change fairly soon.

  • never :)

We do it every 2nd or 3rd night. E's eczema would get cracked and bloody if we did it daily

  • We still only bathe H every third night, at the suggestion of his pedi and allergist because he has pretty bad eczema. I'm of the opinion that infants and young toddlers just don't need to be bathed every night (of course, it's fine if you want to, but not necessary). I can forsee having to bathe Henry every night when he's about three and digging in the dirt every day, etc, but for now this works for us.
