Help me diagnose fussiness

So my 11 day old baby will not sleep between feedings today. It started late yesterday and has continued. He isn't crying, but he is making loud discomfort noises and can't keep his eyes closed - no matter if he is in the mamaroo, my arms, co-sleeper. Up until last night he slept really well after a feeding. I am breastfeeding. Is he not getting enough? I am feeding for 15 min on one side, burping him and moving to other side until he falls asleep. Once I put him down he is fine for about 30 minutes and then starts fussing.... any ideas? Is this normal?

Re: Help me diagnose fussiness

  • is he gassy?  my take on things was that a little bit of medicene to check out an issue wasn't going to hurt him...so I'd be inclined to give him a little dose of gas drops or even gripe water and see if that helped.

what kind of noises?  My DS make little coughs and grunts and squirmed a lot when his reflux was bad.

  • When do you have a follow up with his pedi?  I had to keep going until they were back up to their birth weight and then at 2 weeks.  I had tonnes of milk so that wasn't an issue...my little guy was not happy unless he had a soother.  I didn't give him one until his doctor said it was okay...I was scared to b/c of what I heard about nipple confusion etc.  Also try and make sure he is getting a good burp.  Pump his legs to help work it out if you have to.

  • he had one follow up on saturday and he has another this friday. he was almost back to birth weight by saturday - so i know he is getting enough milk - but he is drowsing when feeding so maybe i need to rouse him more to make sure he is getting full before letting him fall asleep and burp him more. thanks ladies!
