Stroller/Travel system dilemma, advice needed

For DS # 1 I bought the Chicco KetFit 30 and Snap and Go and loved it. It was so lightweight and easy to use. After DS outgrew it we bought a lightweight umbrella stroller and that has worked great for us. DS # 1 will be about 20 months when the twins come.

We are going to get another Chicco Car Seat and here is the dilemma. Chicco now makes a double "travel system" type stoller. Advantages to that seems to be

  • Versatile, can configure to use it with 2 car seats or 1 car seat plus DS #1 (I could wear one of the babies)
  • Won't have to buy a double stroller in the future (do you think this is true)

What worries me is that I will hate it because it is so heavy and I am not sure how manuverable it will be. I don't think they have them in the store for me to try out.

I am stalking craigslist for a DSNG, I don't mind buying that used. Do you think I should just get the DSNG and wait to buy a double side by side stroller? Should I get both the DSNG and the Chicco travel system? It might be nice to have the options, DSNG if I am out with the twins, Chicco if I am out with all 3. Those items seem to sell like hotcakes in my area on craigslist so I will probably be able to recoup a lot of the money once the kids outgrow it. So what do you think, Chicco travel system, DSNG, or both? TIA!

  • Personally I am not a fan of tandem strollers.  We got the DSNG and solely use it for outings.  I wanted the Bumbleride Indie Twin, and was willing to wait to buy it when boys needed it, but found a great deal on it so got it while pg.  I love it!  We use it for strolls around the park, neighborhood, etc.  Also, if we are going to grandma's house and know we will be there for extended period, we'll take that stroller... I love that the seats recline fully.

  • I don't think you need a DSNG AND the Chicco system (you mean the Cortina Together, right?). The Chicco is obviously a lot heavier than the DSNG but that's the only positive between the two. I think you'd just get used to the Chicco's weight. The Chicco pushes much better than the DSNG, but not as great as the more expensive doubles. I know if I had the Chicco, it could not be my only stroller. The front seat doesn't recline like the back one does. I don't know how far it reclines. From the pics it looks like not at all, but I'd like to think that's not the case. It for sure doesn't recline fully like the back seat. It's bulky like all tandem doubles so I would want a SBS for walks/outdoors. But this depends on the family. I know other twin moms who didn't need a SBS.

If you just got a DSNG could you wait 4-6 mo for your next stroller or will you need something sooner for your DS1?
