Success after IF

BLWR: It clicked!

We've been doing BLW for a little over two weeks, and in this time, she has been very interested, but not really 'eating'; more like sticking food in her mouth and exploring, gumming it a little, but more ends up on her than it does in her stomach.

Well yesterday, something clicked! She picked up a roasted sweet potato stick,  stuck it in her mouth and started chewing and swallowed it! Granted, a ton still ended up on her face and lap, but, by george, I think she's got it!

  • Nice!!! That is so exciting!! I'm really struggling with trusting that he isn't going to choke... He had a few things this weekend that he really enjoyed gumming, but I got panicky everytime a piece got close to breaking off. Ugh! I'm also finding that he is just like DH and I! He doesn't like the plain foods, but he loves highly flavored things! Pickles, kielbasa, pasta with red sauce... Loved em! Unseasoned peppers, oatmeal (even with apples) and pancakes without syrup got gags and refusal. :)

  • Awesome!  It's fun when they really start to get it.  I found it also helped me relax a bit, once DD started actually gumming/chewing things and not gagging I recognized that she was developmentally ready to eat and it helped.  We still watch her closely, even now b/c she has a tendency to stuff food in her mouth, but I still think the BLW approach was a great way to go.

  • That's great!  It took Nora about that long too.  Now that she's really been eating stuff for the past couple of weeks, she hardly gags at all.

It's so fun when they get the hang of it.  And Nora just absolutely LOVES to eat.  This morning I put a plate with some toast strips on the table (I thought they were out of her reach!) and went to wet a washcloth to wash her hands...when I came back she was munching on some toast!  Apparently, she just couldn't wait for me.  Bad mom.  : )
