Over the last 2 months, Hayden's language has really grown. He probably learns 1-2 new words a week so keeping up with what he is asking for is getting difficult. The hardest part is that most of what he says isn't full words (as adults would say them). Yesterday, Hayden takes me over to our kitchen. We have a desk built in and cabinets above it. He says "ca" and points to the cabinets. This is a new word to me and I have no idea what he wants. He says "ca" again with more intensity and points. I start picking stuff up and saying " this?" "this?". None of them were "ca" and at this point he is frustrated that I am not getting what he wants. I ask him to show me what he wants but he is done and just cries.
Fast forward to this morning. Again he walks me to the same place and says "ca". Remembering yesterday, I pick him up right away and say "show mommy what you want". He opens the cabinets and pulls out his container of crayons and thats when it hits me. Ca=color. I ask him to say color and he says "ca". Boy am I glad I figured that one out!!
Learning toddler-ese is seriously like learning a new language. It can be very frustrating for both of you until you finally understand each other.
Re: Learning toddler-esse is hard!!
It's crazy, but so much fun to see them (and us) figure it out.
Elizabeth's "cracker" and "buckle" sound similar and when she's in the high chair, half the time I think she's asking for a cracker when really she just wants me to open the buckle on the strap so she can buckle it herself.
The last few days she's been saying something that sounds like gah-gah that I haven't figured out yet. Send Hayden over to help us.
