Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Anyone use the Exergen Temporal Thermometer?

I'm thinking of buying one but I'm not sure how accurate it is or how long it takes.

We're in desperate need of a new thermometer because the passy thermometer isn't cutting it anymore.

Re: Anyone use the Exergen Temporal Thermometer?

  • We have that one and I love it.  It takes like two seconds, you swipe it from the middle of their forehead to their ear and you get the reading.   DD can practically do it herself.
I read that they were slightly less accurate than correctly taken rectal or oral temperatures.  But, for the purposes of telling if she has a fever or a high fever, a tenth of a degree doesn't really make a difference to me.  Also, it's not easy to keep them still enough to correctly take a rectal temperature, so that loses whatever advantage that has in accuracy.

I love being able to just quickly take her temperature if I'm concerned.

  • We have it. It's quick, but it beeps as it's scanning which makes it hard to take a toddler's temperature because they reach for it. O likes to play with it and take my temp, but sometimes he'll just sit and stick his forehead out for me to scan, lol. A nurse once told me you can also take the temp at the groin area or neck.

This!  It was getting almost impossible to do a rectal on DD w/out DH present so we bought it.  I'm definitely happy we have it.

  • Ok, so no negative reviews?

I want to hit the sale at BRU if it's a good deal because we are in need of a new thermometer for DD (and with LO #2 on the way).
  • I like it.  It's quick and easy... although, not quite as accurate as other thermometers.  Each time I swipe her forehead, I will get a different reading (usually within .5).  However, it lets me know when she has a temp and it is the only device she will sit still for.

  • No negative review here either. It is extremely easy to use. I agree with PP that readings tend to vary a little but if you are simply trying to figure out no fever vs. low fever vs. call the dr. fever it works like a charm.
  • Positive review here too, It was 1/2 off on black friday so I bought it. I love it. I was told by a nurse friend that if you start at the middle of the forehead and continue down and around to the back of his ear you should ge the most accurate reading.

Down under the ear and around?  Or over?
