I met my new OBGYN (insurance changed on the 1st) and loved her. She was very nice and said she was so sorry for my loss. I had to have all my records faxed from my old doctor and unfortunately they didn't fax the records before the apt (grrr) so she asked me all kinds of questions about the m/c (and my previous one) and sat with me for a good 45 minutes to an hour. We talked all about my history and everything and she said normally she wouldn't offer testing b/c I've had a healthy pregnancy but she said since I've had two miscarriages (even though they're not in a row) she said she would offer some. She said a couple weren't really necessary but she thought maybe a thyroid test might be good to do and another I really don't remember the name of (something with an a....very technical).
The thyroid thing stuck out at me a little because my maternal grandma, sister, 2 paternal aunts and 1 cousin have hoshimoto (hypothyroid). This makes me wonder if maybe I'm more likely to have it too. Does anyone here have this or had the test done? I got the blood test Friday so I should find out tomorrow.
And, regarding the VIEW post below- is anyone here planning on getting tested for gluton sensitivity/intolerance? I am wondering if it might be a good idea to mention it, since I also have Endo...
TIA
Re: Post m/c testing for thyroid (DS pics/ticker inside)
Sorry for your losses. I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's disease right after I got pg. I had just started my thyroid meds. I m/c'd at 6 weeks. It's an autoimmune disease that where your body attacks your thyroid. Patients can fluxuate between hyper and hypothyroid. It is a blood test, but they have to specifically test for the anti-thyroid antibodies.
After I m/c'd, we luckily got pg again with twins. I had to have my TSH checked every month or so to monitor my thyroid levels while pg.

Sorry for your loss as well and thank you for sharing. My sister did tell me about the specific tests so I'll be sure to ask when I get the results if they checked all of them. Thanks for the info.

Yes, thyroid issues can be hereditary. My mom, three aunts, and grandma all have thyroid issues. I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's right before I got pregnant in August 2010. I had to have my blood checked every 4-6 weeks to make sure it stayed in normal range.
While I just lost our son at 21 weeks, it was not due to my thyroid (it was a cord accident).
My doctor tested my T3, T4, and TSH levels. He also had to run a special test to check for the antibodies (to see if it is Hashimoto's) but I forget the name.
