Hi,
I just found out last Thursday that my gestational sac of 10 weeks was without a baby inside - a chemical pregnancy my doctor is calling it. I have a D&E scheduled for tomorrow afternoon. I have a ton of anxiety about being put under - I have a little girl who I am desperate to stick around for. I would appeciate words of experience from any of you ladies who have been through this experience.
Re: What to expect at D&E tomorrow
just had my D and E a few days ago. Besides the sadness of losing a child the worst part was getting the IV started. I was dehydrated bc i wasnt supposed to eat after midnight.
You'll get an IV and then it will be over before you know it. Then some bleeding and cramping but it was nothing that motrin didnt take care of. I was also a little dizzy so didnt get up at night without DH to help me to the bathroom.

I'm so sorry about your loss- there's a really great post about what to expect here:

I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. I'm sure you were just as shocked as I was when they told me there was no baby inside. Seems like such a cruel joke.
Your story sounds a lot like mine, but with a different diagnosis. I went in to have my 12w u/s done and all they found was a sac and placenta (approx. 10 weeks), but no baby inside the sac. However, my doctor diagnosed mine as a "blighted ovum". From what I've read, a chemical pregnancy is an early, early miscarriage because there is conception, but no implantation. Since you have a sac, you had implantation. Very strange.
I had a D&C appt., but I didn't make it. I naturally m/c-ed the day before.
A lot of women on this board have had D&Cs and/or D&Es, and they seem to be happy with the results. No one, to my knowledge, has written about complications due to being put under. Hopefully, others will be able to share their insight with you.
Wishing you a smooth procedure tomorrow and a quick recovery.

Thanks for the link Lauren! The responses to your thread were super helpful. I feel a lot better about knowing what to expect as far as time frame goes.
88eve88 thanks for your well wishes. You are right - it does feel like a cruel joke. The worst part was looking at the perfect sac on the ultrasound and seeing nothing inside. As far as the diagnosis - I could have misunderstood my doctors explanation - things have been a bit of blur since I found out. I'll have to talk to her more about it at our follow-up appt. Lord knows I won't think to ask a sensible question tomorrow - I'll be too busy praying. :-)
