I posted this on PAIF as well but would really appreciate your input. We're starting to interview Pediatricians tomorrow and I would love some suggestions and advice for questions we should ask or issues we should discuss.
We talked about on-call hours, sick hours, BFing/FFing (I wasn't sure what I wanted to do). I definitely got a feel for the office and if it was a big practice/small practice. We also talked a bit about what happens in the hospital after I deliver.
I met with 3 different pedis and knew right after I left the final one which one I wanted to go to. They were a good fit for me and I just knew that.
Good luck with your search! And keep in mind that if you choose someone who you end up not liking...you can always change doctors!
The things that were important to us were how easy it is to schedule sick appointments, after hours care, philosophy on vaccinations and antibiotic use, office procedures, and how many physicians were in the practice. I also made sure to let him know that I was going to be "that mom" who called at least once a week and who made panicked appointments for the smallest things. (I kind of judged his reaction to that too, and he passed my test... hasn't let me down yet )
I had pretty much chosen our pedi before we got pregnant (I know his wife), but I wanted to make sure that we were a good match. I really loved that he was able to cite research/best practices when we talked, and he's young so he's pretty up to date on most things. I also felt really comfortable with him right off the bat, which is really important! You want to trust your pedi and be able to ask them any question, no matter how silly you may think it is
