And for those who have seen pictures of V over the last year bet you were thinking - well she is a little chubster. But NO. He seems to think she is not growing enough!!??
She has fallen to the 35% for weight and lost 12oz in 2 months (She weighs 20 lbs and is 28 inches). She has grown a little in height and her head size is still at 75% but he is concerned she is falling behind and grilled me if we were giving her enough calories. I am a little concerned because she is a BF baby the chart may be geared toward FF. I don't know. She is still very round and just more active. We go back in 3 weeks so who knows! Grrrr.
Re: Doc is concerned about V's weight?!!!! REALLY!!!
Are you exclusively BF or do you give her food as well? Also, what weight percentile was she in previously?
If she dropped from the 75th to the 35th, well, yeah, that is quite a drop off. But if it was only 50th to 35th.. that's not that much when you only weigh 20 pounds!! One big poo and that'll drop you a few points!
Fortunately, I have a very anti-alarmist pedi. But I know that's a rarity. As long as her growth is proportionate, I would not worry about it too much.
Our doctor said there's usually a big drop around a year, when babies ditch the formula or breast milk and start getting really mobile, both at the same time.
PLus there's the whole ff vs bf chart thing. I'm sure she's fine. Heck, Margaux is older and weighs less.
My pedi was concerned about DD's weight at her 9 month appt because she dropped from 20th percentile to the 10th. It wasn't that she was only 10th percentile that worried her but the fact that she dropped that much. DD is still only 13th percentile. The Pedi hasn't worried about it since as she is staying at or above the same percentile.
She has been on solids since 6 mths, and is a pretty good eater. As far as percentages she has been all over the charts. As high as 90% for weight and then closer to 60%. I think what's so frustrating for me is that when you look at her she appears to be so fat and happy - I'm just surprised by his reaction.
I think it is the drop in weight that set the alarm off for the pedi. When Matt went in for his 9 month appt and had started crawling right after he turned six months he had dropped about 40% in the percentiles. We went in each month for him to be weighed to make sure his weight stabilized.
Now Matt has been at 5% for over a year and the dr is comfortable with it

From what I understand breast fed babies do not gain a lot between 9-12 months. So it could be very normal.
While we went to have testing done (GI) for Keegan since he was not following his own curve/path & he nursed until 12 months, but he ate a lot of food - & even though I thought developmentally & personality wise he seemed just fine.. something seemed off to me. Now that he is on a supplement his skin & face look healthier.
This is my understanding too. My pedi's practice won't even give weight percentiles to BF moms/babies at the 9 and 12 month appointments because they think both the FF and BF charts are inaccurate for this age range. So I of course looked up DD's percentile online and it's about 50th. Think it's supposed to be due in part to increased physical activity at this age and the transition for being primarily breast feed to depending more on solids. Hopefully, if V is chubby, happy and active you can take a deep breath and relax!!!
She is the same height/weight as Gracie was at her 1 year. She also did not gain any weight from 9 months. The Dr. said she has slimmed down and is more active. He will be slightly concerned if she is the same weight at 15 months. I wouldn't worry!
