So DH is 12 months and seemed super hot when he woke up from his nap. I took his temp using his armpit and it came out to be 101 and I'm kind of worried. He seems ok and is playing. Is 101 a dr calling temp?
Our pedi says to add roughly 1 degree to underarm temps, so really that 101 would be a 102. I'd definitely give Motrin/Tylenol and depending on what the fever did after that I'd probably call the doctor as well.
You add 1 when underarm so give some meds and see if you cam bring it down. I don't call for fever alone unless its uncontrollable with mess or spikes 103+. Hope your LO feels better soon.
Thanks and after reading my message- by fever I meant temp! I gave DS some a little bit ago and I'll wait to take it again in a while it was pretty traumatic to take it ther first time! Thanks for your answers!!
I'm pretty sure you add a degree for underarm temps. Our pedi stresses that you treat the symptoms, not the number, meaning a child who has a fever of 103 but is playing happily is much less concerning than a child who has a fever of 100 and is lethargic. DD had a temp of 104.5 at the pedi's office the other day and they gave her motrin, said it probably wouldn't spike any higher, and then they called me that evening to check on her. They weren't that concerned because a few minutes before having her temperature taken she was tearing up their waiting room
Of course, if it goes over 103 I would still call just to be safe, but it's probably ok if he's still playing and such. Just push the fluids!
