Success after IF

Why do you toss leftover formula after first feed?

I was just reading the formula post below and was wondering why you should toss the leftovers, I'm sure there's a perfectly good reason.

  • What I've read is that is has to do with bacteria that could form.

That being said, we totally don't go by that rule. If we did, we would either be wasting a ton of formula, or we would be mixing bottles all.day.long. When they were really little we stuck by the rules, but as they've gotten older we will let a bottle sit for up to 3 hrs before we toss it and make another.

I've heard someone equate it to a glass of milk, so you ask yourself, "if that were MY glass of milk would I still drink it?"

    This.

I will usually put it back in to the the fridge if she does not finish, and use it a second time. If she does not finish it the second time, I toss it.

This is what I've been doing too.  Thanks ladies

  • My pedi said it was no biggie.  Whatever germs from their mouth they got into the formula, they already have in their system.  Just don't keep it around forever.  We never had issues.
