Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Nutramigen Poop

Any one who has their LO on Nutramigen, what are their dirty diapers like? Lately E's have been very runny and liquidy. The color hasn't changed and he isn't acting differently. I was contributing it to the Nutramigen and all the constant drool, but I am still a little nervous. Also, he has 2-3 dirty diapers a day and gets a rash fairly often.

Re: Nutramigen Poop

  • This is my second kiddo on Nutramigen.  It does seem that the first couple of months on Nutramigen that their poops are very runny (ugh).  It's because the protein is essentially broken down already.  You'll find that they become less runny once their body acclimates to the formula.  My DD would have 4-6 dirty diapers a day at first.

Ugh...both my girls had milk-protein allergies and some days I feel like the "Poop Queen".

At what age did your oldest grow out of her allergy? Luckily for us DD only has the milk protein and not the soy allergy.  She gets supplemented with soy formula and it actually helps the runny/explosive diaper issue.

  • We tried her on Similac at 11 mos and whole milk at 1.  THANK GOD....it worked.  Nutramigen was crazy expensive and at the time my insurance didn't pay for it.  I would talk to your pedi about switching earlier.  Most people try to switch around 6-8 mos with good results.  We had the soy allergy also and horrible blood in the stool.  Pedi will prolly want me to wait until this LO is 1, but at least insurance is paying this time.
