This is my biggest pregnancy pet peeves! The first day of my last period was May 12th, so I'm 8 months if I count actual months (which I do):
May 12-June 12 (not even actually pregnant this whole time)
June 12-July 12
July 12-August 12
August 12-September 12
September 12-October 12
October 12-November 12
November 12-December 12
December 12-January 12
I'm due in a month, February 14 (my cycle is 24 days so that why it's a few days off), so this makes sense. 9 months of pregnancy (actually a little less if you take into account that I had to ovulate before actually conceiving).
However, I'm (tomorrow) 36 weeks pregnant and so many people, books, websites, etc. just divide by 4 so in that case I'm 9 months pregnant! Even if I divide by 4.3 it's almost 8 and a half months. Since I know the exact day of my last cycle, I can count back and know for a fact that I am only 8 months and 4 days pregnant (counting the first day of my LMP as being my first day of pregnancy).
Many people will argue with you until they are blue in the face that pregnancy is longer than it is if you're counting months. On average it's 40 weeks. I'd rather tell people how many weeks I am and how many weeks or months I'm due in rather than tell them how many months along I am. I tell people I'm due in a month and they can decide for themselves if I am 8 or 9 months pregnant.
The way I think of it is this: your ticker says you're due April 10th. That means that on January 10th, you were 6 months pregnant because you have 3 more months to go. On Feb 10th, you'll be 7 months, etc.
That's the easiest way for me to think about it and for non-pregnant women to understand, I think.
The confusion is that a lot of doctors count months in 4 week increments for standardization, as the calendar months are either 28, 30, or 31 days long. So just run with which ever way makes you happy.

Since we are due on the same day, depends how you count. if you count by months you are 7.. 4 weeks in a month.ect... if you count by weeks/days it is 6.5 28wks/4.3=6.5 <i count this way
Haha, so basically there is no right answer, it's however I want to calculate it. For now I guess I will just use weeks since that's something everyone agrees on.
Re: Confused about how many months pregnant I am
You mean weeks / 4.3.
ETA: you caught it!

Sorry my reply is so long.
I don't understand why people find this so complicated.
The problem seems to be that people equate 4 weeks with a month. Most months are 30 or 31 days, not 28. How is that hard to understand?

Thanks for your answers though!
