Success after IF

Day School doesn't start until September?!?!?

The day school I want Caroline to go to doesn't start until September...I was so hoping she could start before then, but apparently not.

Bless her heart...she never sees any other kids except when she goes to the gym day care (and there aren't always kids there).  It is no wonder that everytime we see another kid in public she is completely fascinated with them and just stares.

I'm terrified that she is going to have a long, boring summer with nobody to play with except for boring old Mommy.

Poor kid...I know she is going to love it, and I hate that she can't go until September.

  • What is a day school for a 1 year old?

And I am sure it won't be a long boring summer. :) Tons and tons of kids grow up day in and day out at home with their mommies and don't count it boring (esp at this age).

Married on 3.20.2004. It took 30 month, 2 failed adoptions and IVF for our first miracle. We have had 9 foster kids since he was born and started the domestic adoption process when he was 10 month old, we had 4 failed matches in that time. After our daughter was born we brought her home and spent 2 weeks fearing we might lose her because of complications that came up. But Praise God all went through and she is ours forever! It is a program at our local Methodist church.  The little ones go two days a week from 9am to 1pm.  A friend of mine sent all three of her girls and the absolutely loved it.

Alabama summers are just brutal...and we have to spend a lot of time indoors, because it is just too hot/humid to be outside.  I'm beginning to think that we should move to a more temperate climate ;)

That program sounds great! I am so thankful that DS goes to daycare two days a week. He does great there -- he eats and sleeps better there, and he loves playing with the other kids.

As for the weather, I'm finding the winter brutal. We've hardly been outside at all.

  • She couldn't start mid-year?   Or does the program not actually start til Sept?   Nicholas is going to Mothers Morning Out from 9-1 two days a week- he started last week for the "Winter/Spring Session".    Most of the kids there started in Sept, but Nicholas joined in mid-year.

  • I felt the same way with Kira starting preschool.  I started calling in November 2 years ago, toured in January, and then had to wait until the last week of August to start her.  I hadn't been ready to start her that fall; I thought January would make sense, but everyplace I liked had long been full.  It was worth the wait though, but yeah, it's a long time away, I understand!  And I understand brutal summers too -- this past summer we lived at our Children's Museum, FWIW.  Good luck! :)

Move to DC!  Then she can play with my little girl. :)

  • Do you have other local programs you can take her to during the summer months? Our library does story time twice a week for dds age group, we also have a gymboree, and various programs for little ones at our local Rec center (swim, tumbling, mommy and me classes). We also have several indoor play and learn centers where you can stay or drop you LO off for a few hours. That would give her exposure to other kids her age but the programs I'm thinking of require you to stay with your LO so I don't know how that works with your schedule.

  • Thanks for all the suggestions.  We live in a pretty small town, so we are pretty limited by what we have access to.  No children's museum, no MDO, etc.

I was really counting on this day school thing...I'm going to try to get them on the phone this week and see if she can at least start in their 6 week summer session.

  • They don't have a summer session? Henry's MDO runs Sept-May, but they also have a six-week summer session.
