There's a character in the fantasy book I'm reading right now named Caulder, which I assume is pronounced the same way. It's the only place I've ever seen the name, and it's not a likeable character. Even taking that out of consideration, I don't like the sound of the name.
I think it's a nice alternative to all the trendy last names as first names. I'm totally ashamed to admit that, since I recently read a romance with the main character Calder but it is way better than so many romance novel characters out there.
I know it's a stretch, but for some reason, I think cauldron. And then I think of this cheesy commercial for this place in Houston called "The Magick Cauldron" that sells creeptastic stuff.
From the Latin noun for "warm" or the verb that translates "to warm."
The only direct association I have with this word/name is a series of Western romance novels by Janet Daily, in which the family's surname(Calder) is used in the title of every single one.
Related words:
Cauldron(as several people mentioned), a large cooking-pot used over open flame
Caldera, a basin or crater created when a volcano collapses(Crater Lake is a famous one)
Calderium, a room for taking hot baths in ancient Rome.
I liked it and DH kiboshed it. I did know someone named Calder once and he was a dark and brooding individual, but I like that in a person, so the connotation wasn't negative for me.
It definitely reminded me of a cauldron when I heard it, which was fitting, since Lucinda has a cooking show on the Hallmark Channel (she is one of Martha Stewart's groupies).
Oh, in case you are curious, her son is around 23 years old. Her other sons names are Miles and Luca, who are 19 and 16 years old, respectively (unless they've had a recent birthday).
Re: Boy name - Calder
I think it's bad.
