"Once Upon a Child" stores

My friend told me about the "Once Upon a Child" stores - they buy and sell gently used (and some new) toys/clothes/baby gear. The one near us was having a grand re-opening today, so DH and I stopped by. Holy Moly...I don't want to pay full price for any baby or maternity clothes ever! Everything I saw was in excellent condition, the store was very well organized, clean, well-lit - just like I was shopping in a "regular" retail baby store.

For $60, I got 5 pairs of maternity capris and 4 maternity shirts (they have a dressing room, so I got to make sure that there's plenty of room for "expansion"), 2 books (one children's, one "for the expectant father" kind of book), and 10 white gerber onesies that I plan on personalizing with my cricut and sewing machine for myself and a friend that is pregnant.

AND...they have a rewards card - for every $10 you spend, you get a punch. If you use reuseable bags, you get a punch. They also have some "double punch" promotions.

I'd never bought clothes for myself from a consignment shop, but the clothes I got seriously looked new, smelled new, etc.

I love a good deal! I know that the store is a franchise, so maybe there's one near you :-)

Very cool. I just checked and the closest one to me is 85 miles away in CT (I'm in MA). Anyone know of other stores like this?

Also, in the new Real Simple they mention www.rentmaternitywear.com. Has anyone used that before?

I bought maternity clothes from a store like that too.  You can find some great deals at those stores!

Pretty much everything I'm buying for my baby is going to be second hand (except carseat and the few things that you really should get new). We have a Once upon a child near here, as well as this Ah-May-Zing thrift store. It's clean and all the clothes are in great condition and they always have the coolest stuff! I love second hand stores!

i bought a bunch of clothes for ds from there when he was a newborn.  now that he's a little older, I tend to buy new just because he wears the crap out of them and I can usually buy new for the same price as used.  but, i definitely plan to go check out the store again now that baby #2 is on the way.  I'm hoping to find a cheap double stroller.

I just went to ours today! The one here doesn't sell maternity clothes, but we have another place that does sell nice, cheap used maternity clothing. The one in my city was having a clearance sell and I got several gender neutral outfits for $1 a piece today and also got a nursing cover for $8 and a shopping cart seat cushion for $6. They also had bassinets for $35 which I plan on going back for once I am a little further along. I absolutely love the store!

Love the place..Getting our baby swing there and some neutral clothes and if its a boy, will be getting clothes there as well.. I got a lot of my "maternity" shirts from platos closet (which owns once upon a child) they have a whole second on empire wasted shirts and such.
