? about numbness after c-section

Hey, ladies!  I'm not trying for a VBAC yet (we will be with our next LO), but I figured all of you ladies have had c-sections and I'm hoping someone can help me out.  I also posted this on the 0-3 board.

I know numbness is normal after a c-section, but does/did anyone have issues with their lady bits being numb?  I had a c-section 7 weeks ago, and my junk was numb for about a week afterward.  Feeling slowly started creeping back in (at about the same rate feeling was returning to the area surrounding my incision).

I just had my postpartum check on Thursday, and my OB said that as long as the numbness is going away, it's fine.  Well, DH and I decided to get a little frisky last night for the first time since the section.  We ended up giving up because it really wasn't feeling good (I still don't have full feeling down there).  Now today, things are back to being pretty numb and tingly.  What is going on?  Has this happened to anyone else?  Should I get it checked out again?

Re: ? about numbness after c-section

  • For myself and most of my friends it hung around for about 6 months.  My neighbor who has a 9 year old says she still has some numbness.  So at 7 weeks I wouldn't be thinking much of it at all.

  • Your nerves are probably still healing.  I didn't have any numbness in the lady bits but I had a lot on my belly.  It slowly went away and now I mostly have all my feeling back.  It's still a little bit numb right around the scar but it's not too bad.

I hope this gets better for you.  I'd give it a few months before you worry or go back to the doctor.

  • I had numbness but it was only in the area above my c/s scar...maybe up like 2 inches or so. When I asked about how long it would take to go away the doctor at my postpartum appt just said "A long time".  It was so long I don't recall how long but over the months it got better. I want to say it took over a year for the numbness to go away completely.

I didn't have any numbness in my "lady parts" though.  Is that normal to have numbness down there?  I would think that it isn't. So sorry that you have to experience that.
