cold sores and toddlers

I was away on a business trip last week and when I got home last night I saw that Raquel had two cold sores - one on her top lip and the other on her bottom lip. I don't think I've ever seen a toddler with a cold sore...is this normal? I'd call her doc but we don't have service over the weekend so I'd most likely have to take her to the ER to be looked at which doesn't seem worth it to me at this point.

Re: cold sores and toddlers

  • I got them when I was tiny, probably from my mom or sisters.  I also got mono at the same time, though.  I've heard the onset of cold sores and getting mononucleosis can be linked.  Maybe keep an eye on her temperature, just in case?

I hope it's just something random!

  • Are you sure it's not a nursing sore?  (I guess it depends if you're bfing)  Simon used to get nursing sores a lot on his top lip, looks like a blister.
