prepping washer and dryer and diapers questions

Do I have to do anything to prep my washer & dyer? They're both on the old side, but they came with the apartment and they're only ours, so it's better than nothing. We have been using fabric softener - should I stop now?

Also, I'm starting to build my stash, do you prep diapers as they come in the mail or do you wait 'till you have a whole bunch? Are all diapers prepped the same?

I would stop the fabric softener now.  I have an HE so it may be a different situation but before I was even considering cding I got a buildup problem from normal detergents and fabric softeners. I quit and started using a free and clear detergent and could tell there was a process where it got a little worse for a week, while it was "ungunking" and then got a ton better. I may be totally off here and if I am I apologize, just thought i would offer you my washer experience. Good luck

I should note I'm inconsistent with my detergent use - I currently always use liquid and scent-free, but the brand varies - I get whatever free & clear is on sale (7th generation, method, all, whatever) I know some of these are not CD safe.

And while I"m at it - do you use your CD detergent on your regular clothes once you start CDing? Or do you only use it when washing diapers?

I use Rockin Green on everything, mainly because it's easier, but it's also AWESOME. It gets the clothes cleaner than I've ever seen. I would stop using softener now...it causes build-up. Get yourself some dryer balls!
