What is the purpose of a Bumbo?

I see all of your babies sitting in one, but I don't fully understand the benefit.  Can somebody please explain it to me?  TIA!

    Lets baby sit up "unassisted".  I am going to find a cheap one - from what I have read, they are for up to 22 lbs and DS is 19 already...

    So the baby can practice sitting up before s/he is really able to; gets them off their backs if nothing else and gives them a different view of the world.

    It gets them used to sitting "on their own". It strengthens the muscles they'll need to do that and gives them a better view of the world than just lying down.

    It helps them practice the 'sitting' position and with using their head/neck control to do so. Plus, the mouse is into ANYTHING that gets him up off his back these days. He LOVES the bumbo.
