Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

MTHFR?

Have you been tested for MTHFR mutation?  If so, when?  Was it after multiple early pregnancy losses?  Stillbirth?

  • I have MTHFR and Factor 5 lebein. I have one copy of both of these blood clotting disorders. The OB Dr. prescibed me to take folbee, Neevo, and baby asprin dailly. I had the RPL panel done after my loss.

  • I am so sorry for your losss.  I haven't yet, but will be before we cycle again.  It is usually part of the RPL panel (I think), but since we have to do IVF to get pg, there is no way I'm going through that again just to lose another baby, if I do in fact have an underlying issue that can be treated (with blood thinners and folic acid).  It's a simple blood test, but you will likely have to ask/push for it.  GL!

  • I was tested after delivering my baby stillborn.  I asked about testing at a follow up appt and my dr wasn't going to offer but did the testing because I had asked.   The only test that came back positive was the MTHFR, and I'm heterozygous for the C677T mutuation.  The dr didn't believe that was the cause of the stillbirth, but it is being treated.  He thinks my loss was due exclusively to pre-eclampsia, but who really knows.

I'd ask to be tested- it can't hurt!  Best wishes.

  • It has been two and a half months since our loss at 20 weeks due to a Neural Tube Defect. I am homozygous for C128A. We have been TTC for 3+ years with fertility and have been to multiple speicalists who have run numerous panels of tests. We were not diagnosed by any of these specialists, my OB, or the neonatologist who diagnosed the NTD, but our fertility specialist when we went back to start fertility treatments again. We have attempted another FET and are holding our breaths for another 8 weeks (at 12 weeks) when we can go to the neonatologist and confirm that this baby is (or babies are) healthy.
