Parenting after 35

speaking of RE's

DH & me are getting ready to take the next step & see an RE again. Here's my dilema. I don't know if I should go with the same group that I used last time or switch to someone my friend is using.

RMA, who I used last time is like a baby making factory. They have 6 locations here in Northern/Central Jersey. (On weekends everyone has to use the main loaction, which is a little more inconvenient distance). They have SO many Dr's so you don't always see the same one. (good in the sense that someone is always available, bad because it's not very personal). The price is set & they will not cut you a break if you don't have insurance or if you are paying cash. I hated my nurse. Even though I was successful with them, it did take 6 attempts. It was the most stressful thing I have ever gone through in my life. I know this time around can't be as bad since we'll know what to expect.

Do I try the Dr. my girlfriend is using? Same distance, although just outside of NYC so I might be getting stuck in that traffic. Her DH had prostate cancer & had it removed. This Dr. was highly recommended to them. They have to use his frozen sperm. So far one unsuccessful IVF. But the Dr. worked with them giving them alot of the meds instead of them having to buy. It is only one Dr. & a very small practice, so you get great personal service.

I just don't know whichdirection to head in & am wasting time. WWYD?

Re: speaking of RE's

  • If it were me I would check out the smaller practice.  At least go in and talk to him, then see how you feel after that.

    This.
  • I don't have any expereince, but it wouldn't hurt to make an appointment and see what they have to say. I think comfort level/lower stress goes a long way in determining your experience (and possibly the outcome) and it sounds like you might be uncomfortable/starting to stress just thinking about/planning on going through the previous RE. GL and I hope you get a very speedy BFP!

  • I absolutely *love* my RE in Hoboken. She's amazing, and the practice is fantastic--small, not factory-like at all (I went to Columbia in the City first, and hated it because it was like an assembly line). If you want her info, let me know. Highly, highly recommend her.

ETA: I realize I didn't answer your  question--I just plugged my doctor! ;) I'd say that if you have hesitations about RMA, then see someone else, at least for a consult. This can be such an emotional and grueling process that I think having a doctor/practice that you're 100% comfortable with is essential.

  • I have two acquaintances who used RE's in NJ. Would you like me to ask them who they used?  I know from the NJ Nest board that RMA is the "one" most use for a successful pregnancy but it wouldn't hurt to speak to another RE.
