Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

Another trip to the ER

I started bleeding very heavily this morning and am still having a lot of pain and cramping in my left side - the one sided pain is the most worrysome to me. Anyway, I couldn't get ahold of my midwife, so I called my primary and they told me just to go to the ER to be safe in case things weren't progressing as normal. I sort of felt a little bit dismissed as I got the 'it's just a normal part of miscarriage' speech. I got a little snarky when I told them that this was my first experience with miscarriage so it was hard for me to tell what was normal and what wasn't. But the good news is that my beta was 11 (Monday it was 69) so hopefully that means the end is near.

Me (33). DH (37). DD (2.2012). MCs x4. After 4 years & 7 months, due 4.2018!

Re: Another trip to the ER

  • So sorry that you had to go to the ER again!  I had to make a few trips there my self as there were a lot of complications.  But good to hear that your levels are going down,  thats great.  I wish there didnt have to be an "end" for any of us!

  • I'm so sorry!  I with you sister, thank goodness I had a good friend that talked to me candidly about her MC, otherwise I would've had no clue.  Most doctors and ERs see them all the time, so no one walks you through the details.  I didn't know I'd be "cramping" for a month.  And seriously, they made it sounds like it was going to be AF craps, but OMG, there were points that I thought I might die.  I agree, I'm ready for this part to just be over.

  • Oh no!!  I needed to go to the ER for mine, but it was such a traumatic experience that I can't imagine going back another time.  Did the docs in the ER give you a reason for this round of heavy bleeding???

My heavy bleeding was due to my uterus not contracting back into shape on its own, but I haven't had much bleeding since then.

When I was in the ER, the doc and nurses kept saying how common it was.  While it was oddly comforting, it's true that they didn't fill me in on the details and kept me in the dark for most of the time.  I found that I had to do the asking ... a lot of asking!  I'm really glad that the medical professionals stopped and actually answered every single one of my questions.  No one was rude or abrupt with me.

I hope the rest of your recovery is smooth sailing!   I agree too ... I just want this to be done with so I can move on.

  • I am so sorry you had to have another ER trip. And I am so sorry you were treated like that. It can be really upsetting when everyone just tells you its normal. Especially after my own experience being rushed by ambulance. You need to reassure yourself, you have the right to do that. And the drs don't have a right to treat you like you should just know.
