Faucet Water with bottles?

Forgive me for asking such a silly question, but all the talk about mixers and bottle warmers has me curious.

What is the problem with using warm water from the faucet to mix with formula? Sorry in advance for my ignorance!!

TIA!

Re: Faucet Water with bottles?

  • You can use faucet water, I always used water from the faucet to make bottles. I liked the formula pitcher because it got rid of the lumps in the formula and I could make multiple bottles at a time and pack them away for the next day. I also just heated my bottles up in the microwave, too, which is supposed to be a no-no because of "hot spots" from the formula.

  • absolutely nothing...my dr actually told me i should use tap water because it has flouride and it's better for their mouths! but they did say no well water...and i never premix my bottles..i read an artical that said after about 5 minutes the formula actually starts to lose nutrients because it's exposed to air when you shake it or mix it or whatever so i always make them on demand...

  • I used warm tap water bc honestly i found it quicker than pre mixing and heating to the same temp as the tap water.

not a dumb question all i suggest is ask your pedi how your water is.  My pedi asked at our 1st app where we lived and said the water was fine there.  Also said like pp no well water.

  • If you do have well water, just make sure you get it tested. That's what we had to do :)

  • We asked our pedi about our water -- she said our city water was fine, warm or cold!

  • Like pp said, our pedi recommended it for the fluoride, and also said no untested well water.  The only other thing I can add, is that she did recommend letting the water run for about 30 seconds to allow any water that was sitting in the pipes to flow through, especially if you have metal pipes under your sink rather than the plastic/PVC.

  • Great! Thank you so much ladies, I think that will be sooooo much easier then waiting 4-6 minutes for a bottle warmer. I'm sure thats a lifetime when they are crying and hungry at 3am

     Thank you!
